About Me
Melanie Foster
Integrative counsellor
Firstly, I’m glad you’re here and you have taken the step to looking for help and support, this is a big deal. Before we get started today let me explain to you a little bit about who I am and what I do.

My name is Melanie, I’m 46 and I’m an integrative therapist. I have been counselling for a number of years and I have always had a passion for supporting people on their journey of exploring and understanding their hurdles. I have worked in many different areas, supporting people through a variety of issues.

I spent many years working alongside people in their struggles with addiction, bereavement, anxiety and mental health issues. Volunteering at some wonderful organisations and having had experience of supporting family members through battles with addiction and mental health issues. This is one of the many reasons why therapy is of the upmost importance to me. The simple power of having the space to stop for a minute and get to grips with our issues in a safe space. Offering the gentle art of listening, reflection and time to make sense of things with a professional. Someone who has nothing other than your best interest at heart, no fear of judgement or reprisal to take us away from the work we will do together.
Why Counselling?
It can help with
Healthy Coping Mechanisms
Having thoughts where you feel stressed out or overwhelmed is common in today's world. The ability to cope and deal in a healthy, positive and constructive manner is often the difference between success and failure in life. A person who is unable manage when things get tough may have some hard times ahead of them.
A Sounding Board
Loneliness is a problem many individuals face. Feeling isolated can often contribute to an often overwhelming situation. A support system can be helpful in facing the challenges life often presents, and without that system in place, additional stress may be added to life, even causing physical illnesses in some cases.
Achievement Of Goals
Throughout the process of therapy, I will work with you and help you set certain life goals you are aspiring to achieve. I will also assist you on your journey reaching and fulfilling these life goals. This is a very impactful part of therapy, which sets the precedent for what life will be like after our work together is complete. The ability to set goals and achieve them matters, not just in therapy, but in everyday life as well.
Overcoming Past Trauma
If issues from the past are not dealt with, they can linger, fester, and adversely impact your day-to-day life. Overcoming past trauma is not always easy, but it is something that we can when we work together.
Purging Bad Habits
Working together in therapy we have the opportunity to get rid of self-destructive habits that may be hardwire in our minds. In many cases, therapy can greatly help you with this by providing various constructive alternatives.
Improves Relationships
When going to therapy, the relationships that you have are bound to come up. Relationships share such an intimate tie with our quality of life and who we are as people. The right ones can make us better people while the wrong ones can wreak havoc and drag us down. In order to have the best quality of life, we need to enjoy, mutually beneficial relationships and therapy can help with that.
